This card, Cursed Totem, would be beneficial in a deck that focuses on shutting down opponent's activated abilities, especially in a creature-heavy meta. However, a better alternative could be Linvala, Keeper of Silence, as it not only shuts down creature abilities but also has a flying body. Whether Cursed Totem should see play would depend on the specific meta and strategy of the deck, but it can be a strong choice in the right circumstances.

Activated abilities contain a colon. They’re generally written “[Cost]: [Effect].” Some keywords are activated abilities and will have colons in their reminder text.

Cursed Totem does not prevent creature cards which are not on the battlefield from having their abilities activated.
