A deck that focuses on red and green mana sources, such as a Gruul or Jund deck, would benefit from using Rootbound Crag as it provides access to both colors of mana. While Rootbound Crag is a solid dual land option, there are better alternatives like Stomping Ground or Copperline Gorge that come into play untapped more consistently. However, Rootbound Crag can still see play in budget decks or in decks that require additional dual lands to support their mana base.

This checks for lands you control with the land type Mountain or Forest, not for lands named Mountain or Forest. The lands it checks for don’t have to be basic lands. For example, if you control Temple Garden (a nonbasic land with the land types Forest and Plains), Rootbound Crag will enter the battlefield untapped.
