Drown in Shapelessness can be useful in blue tempo and control decks looking to gain some tempo advantage by bouncing a threatening creature back to its owner's hand. While it is a decent option at a low cost, there are arguably better alternatives like Unsummon or Boomerang that offer additional utility for the same cost, making Drown in Shapelessness less likely to see competitive play in most Magic: the Gathering decks.
