However, there are potentially better cards like Astral Cornucopia or Everflowing Chalice that provide more flexibility and scalability in terms of mana ramp and charge counter generation. Surge Node may not see as much play in competitive decks due to its limited utility compared to other options available.

Surge Node can be the target of its own activated ability. Because it doesn’t “move” a counter, the ability will remove a counter from Surge Node and then put one onto it.
