Collateral Damage would be beneficial in a red aggressive deck that focuses on sacrificing creatures for value and dealing direct damage to the opponent or key creatures. While it provides a quick burst of damage, other cards like Lightning Bolt or Searing Blaze may be more efficient in terms of damage output for the same cost, making them better options in most scenarios. However, Collateral Damage could still see play in specific strategies that rely on sacrificing creatures for additional benefits or as a surprise finisher.

If you sacrifice an attacking or blocking creature during the declare blockers step, it won’t deal combat damage. If you wait until the combat damage step, but that creature is dealt lethal damage, it’ll be destroyed before you get a chance to sacrifice it.

Players can respond to Collateral Damage only after it’s been cast and all its costs have been paid. No one can try to destroy the creature you sacrificed to stop you from casting this spell.
