The life gain drawback is usually negligible for control decks stabilizing the board, but at five mana it’s inefficient compared to stronger alternatives like **Swords to Plowshares** (far more efficient despite life gain), **Path to Exile**, **Generous Gift**, **Get Lost**, or **Lay Down Arms** in mono-white builds; even **Fateful Absence** or **Winds of Abandon** can be preferable depending on format.
