Petrify is best in aggressive or tempo-focused Amethyst decks that want to remove an opposing character from action for a turn so they can push through quests, protect key board states, or set up a favorable challenge; it also has some value in control decks as cheap interaction, especially if the format has many important exerted characters. That said, it is usually outclassed by stronger removal or tempo cards when available, because “exert chosen opposing character” is temporary and depends on the target already being ready or on the opponent’s future choices; cards like **Freeze** or more unconditional removal options are generally better if you need lasting impact, and cards such as **Mother Knows Best** can be stronger in certain situations because they disrupt board presence more effectively.
