About Requiting Hex
Requiting Hex, Instant, designed by Randy Gallegos first released in Jan, 2026 in the set Lorwyn Eclipsed.
Requiting Hex would fit best in a black-based aggressive or aristocrats-style deck that either doesn’t mind shrinking its own creatures (because they have +1/+1 counters, undying/persist, death triggers, or are expendable tokens) or actively benefits from placing -1/-1 counters; it’s especially appealing in formats where cheap, efficient creatures dominate and where sacrificing or weakening your own creatures can generate value. However, in most competitive formats there are simply stronger options: **Fatal Push** (often the gold standard for 1-mana removal), **Disfigure**, **Cut Down**, and **Tragic Slip** are generally more efficient or flexible without requiring a drawback, and even **Bloodchief’s Thirst** offers broader utility. The life gain upside on Requiting Hex is minor, and the restriction to mana value 2 or less makes it situational, so unless a deck specifically leverages the “blight” synergy, it would likely be outclassed and see limited competitive play.
