Questa carta sarebbe utile in un mazzo concentrato sul cimitero che mira a sfruttare il lancio di incantesimi e il giocare terre dal cimitero. Può essere particolarmente potente nei mazzi che utilizzano strategie di auto-mill o scarto. Anche se il Mago della Volontà può essere un'ottima aggiunta in certi mazzi, ci sono altre carte come la Volontà di Yawgmoth che offrono un effetto simile a un costo inferiore e con maggiore flessibilità, rendendole potenzialmente migliori opzioni per il gioco competitivo.
