Opschorting kan nuttig zijn in een controledeck dat de instant- en toverspreuken van een tegenstander wil verstoren of wil voorkomen dat hij niet-mana-vaardigheden activeert. Er zijn echter potentieel betere opties zoals Silence of Teferi, Time Raveler die vergelijkbare effecten bieden met extra voordelen, waardoor het minder waarschijnlijk is dat Abeyance wordt gespeeld in competitieve Magic: the Gathering-decks.
