Asphyxiate, Sorcery, designed by Kev Walker first released in Feb, 2014 in the set Born of the Gods.
A deck that focuses on controlling the board by removing key threats would benefit from including Asphyxiate. While it can efficiently take out an untapped creature for a low cost, there are more versatile removal spells like Murder or Doom Blade that can target any creature regardless of its tapped state. Asphyxiate could see play in specific decks looking for targeted removal at a low cost, but overall, it may not be the most optimal choice compared to other options available in the game.
