Een kaartspel dat zich richt op het beheersen van het bord en het verstoren van de strategie van je tegenstander zou baat hebben bij het opnemen van Baleful Mastery, omdat het een veelzijdige verwijderingsoptie biedt die tegen lagere kosten kan worden uitgebracht. Hoewel het nadeel van het toestaan dat een tegenstander een kaart trekt, kan worden verzacht door de spreuk effectief te timen, zijn er potentieel betere verwijderingsopties beschikbaar, afhankelijk van het specifieke archetype en formaat van het kaartspel. Baleful Mastery kon echter nog steeds spel zien in bepaalde controle- of midrange-decks op zoek naar extra verwijderingsopties.
