This card, Grasping Current, would benefit a control deck that focuses on tempo and card advantage. It provides a way to temporarily deal with threats by returning creatures to their owner's hand, while also allowing the player to search for a powerful card like Jace, Ingenious Mind-Mage for additional card advantage and control. While there may be more efficient removal spells or card draw options available, Grasping Current could still see play in a deck that values flexibility and synergy with Jace, Ingenious Mind-Mage.

You may cast Grasping Current without choosing any target creatures. You’ll just search for Jace, Ingenious Mind-Mage. However, if you choose any targets and all of those targets become illegal before Grasping Current resolves, the spell won’t resolve and you won’t search.
