Een midrange- of controledeck dat zich richt op het verkrijgen van leven en het behouden van de aanwezigheid op het board zou baat hebben bij het gebruik van Obstinate Baloth, omdat het een solide body, levenswinst en veerkracht biedt tegen teruggooi-effecten. Hoewel er mogelijk betere opties zijn, afhankelijk van de specifieke kaartspelstrategie, maakt het vermogen van Obstinate Baloth om leven te winnen en mogelijk terug te komen van weggegooid te worden, het een waardevolle opname in bepaalde metagames, vooral bij strategieën die veel weggooien.

If a spell or ability an opponent controls causes you to discard Obstinate Baloth, and both Obstinate Baloth’s ability and another ability (such as that of an opponent’s Leyline of the Void) instruct you to put Obstinate Baloth somewhere else instead of putting it into your graveyard, you choose which one to apply.
