Throttle zou een waardevolle aanvulling zijn op een Black-controledeck in Magic: the Gathering, omdat het een kosteneffectieve manier biedt om bedreigende wezens op het slagveld te verzwakken of te elimineren. Er zijn echter meer veelzijdige verwijderingsspreuken zoals Murder of Fatal Push die een soortgelijk effect bieden met mogelijk lagere manakosten of extra voordelen, waardoor Throttle minder optimaal is in competitief spel, tenzij specifieke synergieën of beperkingen de opname ervan vereisen.
