Witch Engine zou het meest nuttig zijn in een zwart controledek dat zich richt op moerassynergie en het ontkennen van hulpbronnen. Hoewel de kaart een aanzienlijk manavoordeel biedt, kan het nadeel dat de kaart mogelijk de controle over de kaart verliest aan een tegenstander, de effectiviteit ervan beperken. Andere kaarten zoals Phyrexian Arena of Liliana of the Veil kunnen een consistentere waarde bieden in een controledeck en zijn waarschijnlijk betere keuzes voor competitief spel.
