LoR: Standard Deck Guide - 5 Ways to Play Poros!

The Poro King is currently one of the most versatile champions in the entire game. You can even can play him with up to four different regions. This champion is extremely popular in the APAC server in particular, but has a great win rate in all Legends of Runeterra servers.

These decks might not exactly be tier 1, but Poros are easy to play and understand. They'll give you fast matches and are perfect if you want to climb ranks without many issues.

In this article, I gathered 5 The Poro King lists, and, as they're all alike, we'll focus more on the different cards each deck uses, as well as their different regions.

Before we discuss Targon and this Poros archetype, we need to clarify that all Poro decks bring a similar but slightly different proportion of Poros, and have their key differences.

This is the most common shell that players use for their Poros decks:

Cards like Poro Sled, Fabled Poro, and other 1-mana Poros are optional, and may be added to the deck depending on your own taste as a player.

Targon is one of the best regions to play with this archetype, considering its cheap combat tricks, besides all its card draw.

As the main Poro game plan relies on buffing your units just enough to win every battle, cards like Hush are great and will make sure your Poros are always bigger than the enemy units.

Targon also has one of the best removals in the game right now, Sunburst. Despite relatively expensive, this spell is perfect to remove any problematic unit that your opponent might use to disrupt your strategy.

If you need more card draw, Guiding Touch and Pale Cascade are excellent cheap, burst-speed tools. They're great when you want to keep a steady game rhythm and not spend too much time or mana drawing cards.

I'll highlight Tyari the Traveler in this list, as this unit is a great help for your Poros early on. This card will keep them alive if your opponent is just a bit too slow and is trying to set up an AoE removal.

The most accepted version of this Shurima archetype includes a slightly different proportion of Poros: this deck plays 3 Affectionate Poro, 1 Destined Poro, 1 Nimble Poro, and 1 Plunder Poro.

One of the main reasons behind this is that Shurima is better in combat because of Quicksand. This way, you can buff your Affectionate Poro and debuff enemy units enough to always come out on top in combat.

However, Shurima's greatest strength is Sunborn Summoning, which, for just 3 mana, will draw you The Poro King and drastically increase the consistency of your deck. Actually, this version can be considered the most consistent version of all, precisely because of Sunborn Summoning's effect.

Another key difference is that this Shurima version plays 2 copies of Rite of Negation, and thus can protect your board against AoE removals like The Ruination (which is quite popular among control players nowadays).

This version also focuses a bit more on levelling up The Poro King as fast as possible. So, it plays a wider variety of Poros to do that more consistently.

This version includes a few Ionia tools to play around enemy removals, and maybe set up some insane combos.

Syncopation is a cheap, powerful card that will protect The Poro King from most threats. With it, you'll be able to swap him with another Poro on the board and dodge many removals.

Blooming Bud is an incredibly strong spell on your Fabled Poro or Poro Herder, as it will reactivate their summoning effects. It is also great to stop any enemy units that try to disrupt your Poro developments early on.

This deck also includes one Rejuvenating Breeze, which might just draw you Poro Snaxs while it heals your Nexus. There are also two Unworthy Soul, one of the best temporary removals in the game if you want to return the most important cards on the enemy board to your opponent.

This is the most classic version of this archetype, and plays like a "swarm combo" list. The idea is to summon many cheap units and buff all of them at once throughout the match. In this list, the main combo revolves around Fabled Poro's effect: it gives random keywords to all your Poros, so it might just win you games on the spot if you get Elusive, Overwhelm, and other valuable keywords.

Its Poro proportion is also a bit different, as it only includes one copy of each 1-mana Poro, and focuses a lot more on expensive Poros, like Patched Porobot, Mighty Poro, and Ultrasoft Poro, besides Fabled Poro itself.

Unlike the other decks in this article, this list is not aggressive, nor it attacks early on or competes for the board by playing removals against your opponent. Instead, you'll summon Poros, buff them, and give them keywords.

It only includes one defensive card: Elixir of Iron. The rest of the list is either Poros, or spells that create Poros.

Unlike the classic combo version, the Braum combo version is a bit more dynamic when it comes to putting pressure on the game early on. This deck still plays many combo elements, but, because of Braum's effect (which summons a Mighty Poro on the board when he survives damage), you can still keep applying some board pressure early on and set up gigantic units as early as turn 4.

This version doesn't instantaneously lose on the first few turns against aggressive decks, but it doesn't have the same explosive late game turns as the other versions. In fact, it plays a lot slower, and centers around levelling its champions while you set up a strong board with medium-cost Poros (2 and 3 mana).

It also includes 3 copies of Harsh Winds, which can be essential to deal with enemy attacks or even protect your Poros at critical moments.

Sky Splitter, one of the best cards in the format, is also in this deck. This spell will make early game trades with Braum easier, and make sure your Poros survive these first few turns.
