Floppymudkip: Get to Know the Best Runeterra Player of All Time

On the night of June 18th, the American player FloppyMudkip became the only Legends of Runeterra three-times winner of official tournaments, reinforcing himself as the most victorious player in the history of this card game.

We'll take a look at all his titles and accomplishments to understand how such a young player managed to become the true LoR GOAT.

FloppyMudkip - The Best of All Time

In February 2022, we've had FloppyMudkip's first notable accomplishment in the competitive scene in the Seasonal Tournament - Magic Misadventures edition, in which he got himself a Top 4 in the American server. Right after that accomplishment, he sent the following quote on social media:

He didn't know then just how right he was. In just a few months, FloppyMudkip would be paving his way to glory, once more classifying for a Seasonal Tournament, and reaching Top 32 in the Forces From Beyond edition.

But, it was only in October 2022, at the Awakening Seasonal Tournament, when he was finally able to bring home his first official title in Runeterra Seasonal Tournaments. At the time, Ionia was the strongest region, and Nami lists and other Lee Sin lists were in the meta.

This was the lineup that Floppy used to win his first Seasonal:

The Azir Irelia list was a surprise at the time, because this deck had already gone through the peak of its power a few months before, and wasn't all that popular. But the list fit in like a glove, and was the direct answer to Lee Sin lists.

At the time, as well, it was the only time Yasuo was relevant competitively, once the stun mechanics were popular and answered the meta well.

The Only Two-Times Champion

Right after the Awakening Seasonal Tournament, we had the World Championship, and then it was the end to the year of 2022. There were already rumors regarding the Seasonal Tournament's end, to give life to a new tournament system, but no one was sure if that would happen for certain. Even then, many players went into that Seasonal Tournament thinking that it would be indeed the last Seasonals, and, as a result, there was only one chance for anyone in the world to become a two-times Seasonal champion. That someone was FloppyMudkip.

This was the lineup used by Floppy to become the only two-times Seasonal champion in the Americas:

At the time, Kayn Aatrox was the best deck by far. But, even then, the best competitive strategy was to bring lists that play well against Darkin, and that was precisely what Floppy did. The Katarina Twisted Fate list was one of the many versions of the Ravenbloom Conservatory decks which were quite popular at the time, and it surprised opponent players considerably.

In January 2023, FloppyMudkip was already the most victorious Legends of Runeterra player in the Americas.

Runeterra Opens

After January, the Seasonal Tournament ceased to exist to open the way to a new competitive format, including a new tournament called Runeterra Open. Now, Runeterra goes into a new competitive phase, alongside the arrival of Rotation.

At the first edition of the Runeterra Open, Floppy came second, and only lost to his teammate, Card Gamer. A curious fact about this tournament is that they were both bringing identical lineups. So, each of them had 50% of winning statistically, as they had the same decks - and, by a small margin, Floppy didn't take the trophy home, but, he once more made his name known in another tournament Top Cut.

And, finally, we come to the month of June, in which we had two Runeterra Open editions, this time in the Eternal format. Our hero FloppyMudkip ended up bringing home another title on June 18th, becoming champion of the 4th edition of the Runeterra Open, and a three-time winner of Seasonal tournaments.

The most significant difference here is that this tournament was played in the Eternal format, and when faced with so many deck possibilities and an extremely chaotic meta in which all cards are available, Floppy came out on top once more. The most interesting part is that, last week, on June 11th, there had already been a Runeterra Open in this same format, and we already had a grasp regarding what a winning lineup should look like.

But, in the end, Floppy's lineup was extremely creative with emerging ideas in the Eternal format, besides including very strong and well-built decks.

He used an elusive list with Zoe which was getting popular just a few days before the Open on June 11th, but still needed to be polished to be played competitively. Another deck that surprised many players was the Tristana list with Atrocity, which became the most consistent answer to the meta, and was, at the end, his most victorious deck of the night.

This way, FloppyMudkip is currently the most victorious Legends of Runeterra player of all times, the only two-time Seasonal Tournament Winner and the only three-time official Tournament winner in Legends of Runeterra.
