Introduction

Recently I faced a Darius Gnar list and I was surprised to see that Darius' champion spell is Decimate! This spell is so popular and shows up in so many decks that it is hard to relate it to Darius, who suffers to see any play. This event made me think of other champion spells that show up more than their champion counterpart and that was how this article came to.

Before starting, it is necessary to explain which criteria I took into account to form this Top 10. First: I'm considering the 3.15 patch, so I won't take into account the Decimate nerf and the Swain, Nocturne and Master Yi buffs.

Another point I took into account is the amount of decks these champions appear in, for instance: Relentless Pursuit shows up in a very popular deck (Poppy Taric) and Lucian shows up in no decks, so, the spell is more popular than the champion. However, the amount of decks that bring this spell is very small, so I didn't take into account cases similar to this one and I've opted to include cases in which the spell showed up in 2 or 3 decks, to be fairer.

I think that's all, but if there are any questions, just put them down in the comment section. Check out the ranking:

10th place: Kalista's Black Spear

Kalista, even with buffs, stil hasn't seen much play, but her spell Black Spear has shown up in a lot of strong meta decks: Viego Evelynn and Nasus Kindred.

9th place: Thresh's The Box

Thresh actually has seen a bit of play in lists such as Viego and Nasus, but his spell The Box shows up a lot more than him.

All control lists with Shadow Isles take at least one copy of this spell and popular decks such as Norra Heimerdinger and Veigar Norra tend to take 2 copies, and there are even versions with 3.

8th place: Nocturne's Unspeakable Horror

Unspeakable Horror's case is quite similar to The Box, but Nocturne is at an even worse spot than Thresh, as he only appears in one deck.

Let's see if patch 3.16's buff will make this champion show up more than his spell!

7th place: Anivia's Harsh Winds

The mono Anivia deck is quite consistent and viable since the game's first expansion, but it has been the only deck that this champion shines in.

As for Harsh Winds, it shows up in many other decks such as the Concurrent Timelines deck, Taliyah Lissandra, Feel the Rush and Targon's Peak.

6th place: Master Yi's Wuju Style

Master Yi still hasn't found his home in the meta, but his spell Wuju Style has been a highlight in decks such as Nami TF and Akshan Lee Sin.

Quite sad when we consider that this champion has just arrived to the game and is already in this list, right? But we will have to wait and see if the patch 3.16 buff will help this champion get out of this list!

5th place: Diana's Pale Cascade

I love Diana, but she shows up basically in the Nightfall deck alongside Nocturne, whereas Pale Cascade shows up in all Targon decks.

4th place: Ezreal's Mystic Shot

Loading icon

Mystic Shot is a must have in any Piltover&Zaun deck and currently Ezreal only shows up alongside Kennen.

There are folks that still play with the Caitlyn Ezreal list, but after the nerf this champion got, this deck has lost its popularity.

3rd place: Darius' Decimate

The bronze goes to Darius, which sees much less play than Decimate.

He just barely missed silver because I still see this champion in lists centered around Overwhelm, such as the Gnar Darius I mentioned in the article's introduction.

2nd place: Jinx's Get Excited!

Loading icon

I was going to put in Jinx at the top, but though Get Excited! is quite popular, I think this spell shows up less than our first place, so that's why today this champion only gets the silver medal, but things might change after patch 3.16.

1st place: Swain's Ravenous Flock

From more aggressive decks such as Red Gwen to more control lists such as Annie TF, Ravenous Flock shows up in practically every Noxus deck, unlike Swain who is notably missing from meta lists.

With this champion's buffs in The Leviathan, it is possible that he comes back into play and there is a swap between his and Jinx's places, but as my Top 10 is referring to patch 3.15, Swain is the one that gets the gold!

Final Thoughts

Do you agree with my ranking? Did you miss any champion spell? Let's discuss in the comment section! ;)
